The B.B. King Museum is dedicated to celebrating the life and music of this iconic artist, and it is B.B.'s express wish that education and community outreach be at the heart of our mission. We honor him and his legacy by providing educational programs designed to offer young people the kind of hope and opportunity that was not available to Riley B. King in the Mississippi of his youth.
The stories of the Delta - its history, music, social mores, race relations, literature and legends, adversities and successes - are synthesized in one interpretive setting. All these elements came together to produce the men and women who created blues music, and the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center serves as a repository for the rich heritage that gave birth to America’s music.
Educational and cultural programming along with character development training are all presented through mentoring programs, interactive exhibits and demonstrations that include:
Teacher (K-12) workshops and training for the development of curriculum and lesson plans. Lessons are designed to instill pride in local cultural heritage through the history of the blues.
Music appreciation for students and music lovers of all ages. Blues has served as the catalyst for the emergence of other American music forms such as jazz, rock & roll, rhythm & blues, and hip-hop. Educational programs will explore all of these music forms through interactive and hands-on programs.
Programs in technical proficiency, creative development and business skills designed for the aspiring and professional musician.
Workshops that promote literacy through the history of Delta writers and southern literature.
Ongoing collection and preservation of the Delta’s music heritage through an oral history program that records the personal stories of numerous Delta bluesmen.
